Samsung GT-I7500 Galaxy
As of September 2009, the Samsung Galaxy is the best Android phone released so far, in terms of hardware. Its archrival is the HTC Hero (see the Samsung Galaxy vs. HTC Hero comparison).

Samsung New PC Studio (rather rubbish phone synch/management software) latest version. Note that even the latest version of NPS may not support the GT-I7500.
Disable Settinsg -> About phone -> Additional settings -> Mass storage only. Otherwise NPS will not detect any phone at all.

- how to flash the firmware - note that you do need to install Samsung New PC Studio and the USB Driver before running Odin. Note that a newer firmware is available - I7500XXIH8, and I7500XXII4 from September 2009 is out
- install ADB (Android Debug Bridge, required for rooting)
- root the Galaxy
