• cyclonic (large debris stay away from filter for more suction)
• no Ni-Cd batteries because of battery memory problems
• ideally, convertible upright (stick)/hand vacuum (e.g. Electrolux EL1000A2 Pronto Bagless Stick Cyclonic Vacuum, but this particular one seems mediocre)
• motorized/rotating brushes to stir up dust from upholstery (and that can be stopped for scratchless bare floor cleaning)
