Using the official means

I submitted a news item for a LinkedIn group I manage, and ran into an issue with the maximum submission length being inconsistent. As a nice and helpful netizen, I submitted this bug report to LinkedIn via their Contact Us form:

When I go to "Submit and share a news article" for a Group, the Summary: reads "Only the first 250 characters will be displayed."

However, as I type, LinkedIn starts complaining when I exceed 200 characters, not 250.

And here is the reply I received from LinkedIn, some 36 hours later:

Thank you for contacting LinkedIn Customer Support.

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing problems on the LinkedIn site. There are a few options I would suggest you try initially. After completing an item below, please check to see if the issue has been resolved before trying the next solution.

Option 1: Click on ‘Sign Out’ at the top of your LinkedIn homepage then sign back into your account to see if this corrects the issue.

Option 2: Clear cookies from your current browser using the link I’ve included below then sign back into your account to see if the issue has been resolved.

Option 3: Use a different Internet browser to access LinkedIn. Some issues are browser specific. Trying a different browser could be a quick resolution to your problem and help isolate the issue down to that browser. LinkedIn will work best with the latest versions of Internet Explorer®, Safari®, and Firefox® (excluding beta versions). If you do not have the latest browser version, I’d suggest downloading the most current update. Once you have downloaded a new browser, log into your account and see if the issue has been resolved.

For crying out loud LinkedIn, this is a server-side site bug. I'm not "experiencing problems". Your site is. And no amount of signin' out, cookie clearin' or browsers changin's gonna fix your silly issue. Go in the code, find the line that counts "200" characters and change one character so that it counts 250. How hard can it be to do that?

Half an hour later, Kay Luo from LinkedIn saw my tweet about this issue and filed the bug. LinkedIn++ this time!
