Tim Ferriss's Slow Carb Diet - Wiki & FAQ

The Slow Carb Diet is a fat loss method popularized by Tim Ferriss in a 2007 blog post titled "How to Lose 20 lbs. of Fat in 30 Days... Without Doing Any Exercise".

Ferriss claims to have lost about 25 lbs of fat in six weeks on the diet. The Slow-Carb Diet is based on eating foods with a low glycemic index. It can be summarized as the elimination of starches and anything sweet (including fruit and all artificial sweeteners) and a strong preference for lean protein, legumes and vegetables.

I presented my 30-day trial of the SCD at the Quantified Self 2013 Conference in San Francisco on Oct 11, 2013. Below is a Slideshare of the presentation.

Conclusion

Initial weight loss of ~5lbs in the first week. Other than that, no significant results directly attributable to the diet, most likely because I didn't get enough quality sleep.

What I'd do differently next time

  • get at least 7.5 hours of sleep every night
  • get more precise body composition measurements (DXA, BodPod)
  • eat more calories
